Our group was inspired by the bold and protesting works of the Bernadette Corporation and its impact on pop culture and Downtown creative expression in the 90s. Due to March being women’s history month, we decided to make a Bernadette-inspired look made of nontraditional materials and shoot it as a March magazine editorial cover. It is a recurring theme for Bernadette to use repetitive patterns from interesting materials, prints, designs, and political concepts.

We decided to incorporate all of those aspects into our design. This look exemplifies a strong, feminine energy and eclectic, colorful design with a lot of hidden meaning. We chose to make the top out of used soda cans to incorporate Bernadette’s use of patterned non-traditional materials in couture. The Coke Zero cans are wrapping around her chest and stomach area tightly to act as a metaphor for the unrealistic and contradictory expectations of women in society. Our skirt is fully painted with feminist quotes, pop art designs, and drawings based on the art exhibit we visited together. Altogether we feel as though this look would fit right into the creative direction of Bernadette Corporation due to our style, work process of chaotic teamwork, and youthful, bold design.
